Post Operative Instructions After Breast Biospy
- It is helpful to use an ice bag intermittently on the area of the biopsy on the day of the surgery.
- The patient should wear a brassiere for approximately 48 hours after the biopsy because support will lessen discomfort. After this, the bra may be worn as desired.
- You may resume your normal activities as you feel inclined.
- The dressing can be removed in 48 hours. At that time there is no restrictions in terms of allowing the incision to be wet in either shower or the tub. A dressing does not need to be replaced however if there is some irritation in the area, the incision may be covered with a band-aid.
- It usually takes 3 or 4 days for the pathology report to return. At that point in time, you may contact the office for the results. You may also make an appointment at this time to come in to the office for suture removal.
- Bruising in the area of the biopsy and sometimes of the entire breast is not uncommon after the operation.
- If any further difficulties should develop, please contact the office.
